The Raven

Taxidermied raven stands in a cluttered bookshop holding a bookmark in its beak while another stuffed crow stands behind it

There is one thing that everyone notices and talks about while visiting The Known World.

Out of all the books, magazines, prints, and the many, many weird and wonderful objects in the shop, one thing is the most commented upon.

The raven.

Perched regally in prime position, he watches customers come and go, and occasionally, just occasionally, when you glance at him he seems to have changed position… not by much, just enough to make the hair on your neck rise slightly.

The most asked question is “How much for the raven?”

He’s not for sale.

Even though I have been offered far, far more than I paid to buy him some years ago, no, the raven stays with Known World.

Why?

I’m not telling.

Because every good bookshop has a mystery.
